The sage plant is known to have an estrogenic effect on the body. It is one of many known herbal remedies for reducing excessive sweating and calming the nerve fibers of sweat glands. Sage contains flavonoids, oils, and tannins which act as nature’s astringent. These medicinal properties have an anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, and astringent properties that are known to be helpful for reducing or treating hot flashes. Green tea contains catechins, an antioxidant, which helps to speed up metabolism.

I have always preferred using food or herbs straight from nature whenever possible for best results. However, I do know that this may not always be the case depending on where you live. Dried herbs are more accessible to purchase – which works too. I personally have been drinking this tea twice a day for the past 10 years.

Method 1:

Step 1: Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a pot or kettle. Pour the water into a tea cup.

Step 2: Add into the water 1 green tea bag, (I use decaffeinated) along with 1 tablespoon of dried sage to the hot water. You can use caffeinated tea if you wish. Cover the cup and let the mixture steep for at least 4 hours.

Step 3: Remove the tea bag and strain the tea through a sieve. You can either drink the tea cold or warm it up again in the kettle. I personally prefer drinking it cold (during the summer months) or warm (in the winter). You can add honey or stevia along with the juice of half a lemon to taste. Drink the tea whenever a hot flash occurs or you can drink it in the morning before starting your day for an added metabolism boost. As for me, I drink a cup in the morning and one at night.

Method 2:

Step 1: Add 2 tablespoons of freshly chopped sage leaves, a green tea bag, and the juice of half a lemon to a cup.

Step 2: Pour 2 cups of just-boiled water and let it steep for 5-10 minutes before drinking. Remove the tea bag and add honey or stevia to taste. You may want to remove the leaves when fully steeped as they can be a bit chewy.

**I sometimes substitute green tea for ginseng tea. Ginseng has been found to improve physical performance and increases stamina.
